Tall Bearded Iris winter care

Can my iris stay outside during winter?

In colder climates, mulching can be done in late fall with straw or pine boughs. DO NOT USE grass clippings or other heavy mulches which may pack down and trap moisture around the plant.

Remove dead brown foliage and bloomstalks when last flower folds. Clean all winter dead foliage in the spring again before your plants start to actively grow. If you see new growth coming from the center of the foliage fan, you have waited too long. Hurry up and get outside and clean out your beds!
